VIDEO: Kendrick Lamar ‘Swimming Pools (Drank)’

Sit Down, Drank. Stand Up, Drank. Pass Out, Drank. Wake Up, Drank.

Kendrick Lamar has created a stylish video to accompany his highly acclaimed new single ‘Swimming Pools (Drank)’.

The woozy track centers on the impact of alcoholism and the video explores the darker repercussions of having one too many ‘dranks’. While the rapper rhymes reflectively about people ‘living their life in bottles’, ‘drowning in poison’ and ‘abusing their limit’, the video documents the artist drinking alone, stumbling in a club, and slowly falling into a dark, liquid abyss.

Directed by Jerome D, the visual flutters between shots of a sultry dancer and revelers drinking at a red-lit booze-soaked party – these scenes interspersed with powerful images of empty liquor bottles shattering into shards.  Despite the murky concept of the video, a peaceful calmness characterizes the visual as much of it moves in slow motion.

Swimming Pools (Drank)’ is on Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming debut album ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city’ which will be released on October 2nd. Watch the strangely seductive video below.
