Twilight 'New Moon' UK Fan Party/Premiere
The Vampires Were Out!
Dropout UK was present as Twilight hysteria hit London for the UK Fan Party on Wednesday, which was quickly put together after the proposal for a London premiere was axed. Hosted at Battersea Evolution, fans (or for the more savvy of us ‘Twihards’ and ‘Fanpires’) braved the November chill from as early as 7am for a glimpse of the film’s stars on the red carpet. Alex Zane presented the event, interviewing bands and artists featured on the soundtrack of ‘New Moon’, such as The Magic Numbers, Band of Skulls, and Newton Faulkner. Also in attendance were the motion picture’s director, Chris Weitz, and producer Wyck Godfrey.
Behind the red carpet was a spectacularly lit floating moon, and the entrance to Evolution was filled with trees and fog, which added to the ambience of this already highly anticipated event, and not to mention release of the movie. The ceiling of red lights, and Twilight banners inside the venue carried the theme through, and built excitement for the arrival of the cast.
First to arrive was the world's most lusted after vampire Robert Pattinson, cue thousands of screaming fans, looking typically casual in a loose fitting suit with a laid back white shirt hanging out. Following closely behind was 17 year old Taylor Lautner, who, for his role in the second outing of the Twilight saga as Jacob Black, worked out extensively to attain an idealized Werewolf physique. Kristen Stewart walked the red carpet wearing, some would say, a rather unusual and very bright outfit by Proenza Schuler, from the Spring/Summer ’10 collection.
After live sets from soundtrack contributors Band of Skulls and The Magic Numbers, Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw brought the cast, along with New Moon’s director Chris Weitz, to the stage for a question and answer session with the fans.
Despite those photos earlier in the week of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart holding hands in France, the stars didn’t give anything away about their alleged relationship, and even went as far as to joke around with each other. When R-Patz was asked what his favourite scene to film had been, he replied “The one where Edward and Bella broke up”, to which K-Stew added sarcastically “Me too!” The supposed couple barely interacted during the Q&A, ignoring the crowd’s chants of “kiss, kiss, kiss!” with Kristen directing most of her attention to Taylor Lautner, saying that he was most like his character in reality, much to the surprise of Mr Patterson, who exclaimed, “is he?!”. When Lautner was asked which quality he wishes he had that his character does, he said loyalty, and again Kirsten cut in with “you already have that”. So whatever may or may not be going on over at camp Cullen, they did a pretty good job of diverting any attention they might have attracted. Director Weitz joked that all his questions were boring and technical, so Nick Grimshaw asked him who his favourite superhero was, and he replied “Taylor Lautner”, who all night was subjected to cheers of “Take it off! Take it off! Take it off!”
The second installment in the Twilight franchise, New Moon, is released nationwide in theatres on the 20th November, with many cinemas participating in midnight screenings. Dropout UK will definitely be there, so we hope to see you too!
