GIG: Emeli Sande @ 02 Arena, London

Emeli Sande at London's 02 Arena

Following a hugely suggesful first album 'Our Version of Events' the Scotland raised singer songwriter had big expectations to meet, and she didn't disappoint.

Sande took to the stage with a consuming and engaging rendition of 'Hurts', immediately working the crown into a frenzy. Following this she took the earliest opportunity to acknowledge her fans and their continued support and patience of her artistic process. She joked that she had spent most of her time working on her new hair colour, while still donning her trademark cropped cut. However, from the second song Sande showcased to the 20,000 fans filling the venue just what the past four years had consisted of.

Admittedly and predictibly, it was her 'Our Version of Events' hits that initially engaged and energized the crowd, but an intellegent track list allowed her newer material to blend seamlessly into the old, even shining above her initial hits on some occassions.

Half way through the show, Emeli exited the stage and to the audiences delight made her way to a small, intimate stage in the centre of the floor to perform 'Clown' - the arena fell silent as she played the piano to the 2012 hit and erupted when it came to an end.

Sande managed to take somewhat sombre tracks and still captivate and ignite her audience. Her genuine nature while interacting with the crowd allowed the fans to feel a real connection with the singer while she showed London what British Soul music is all about.
