LIVE: Angel Album Launch @ Under The Bridge, Stamford Bridge

It's About Time!

Music lovers congregated at London’s awesome basement venue, and home to Chelsea Football Club; Under The Bridge, waiting in anticipation for talented UK artist Angel to take the stage. All here to celebrate the release of his long awaited, and aptly titled debut LP 'About Time'. The title also represents a common theme with all his musical releases to date, such as ‘Any Minute Now’ and ‘7 Minutes Before Time’ and 'In Between Time'.

With a healthy catalogue of songwriting credits, including smash hits such as 'Green Light' by Roll Deep, the 25 year-old artist had to prove he was more than just a feature singer or writer, and he has most definitely acheived that, and some! This event was a true testimony to this.

The 'Wonderful' singer gave us an energised rendition of tracks including his current dance single ‘The World’, which went to number 12 on the Official Dance charts and has been a sturdy non-mover. Its deep vocal messages and tragic video are effectively juxtaposed with an up tempo backing track, which makes it a tad more light-hearted. Fans were prompted to scream out the lyrics as soon as the sing-along chorus kicked in.

Females in the audience were swooned by the mellow and more affectionate songs including 'Time After Time' and 'Rocket Love', which was written by Grammy winning US artist Frank Ocean. He has an impressive intro featuring the much-loved George the Poet, who cleverly intertwined the idea of 'grinding' and becoming successful artist.

The singer, signed to Island Records, didn’t shy away from interacting with the crowd and giving a real energised and upbeat performance. Multi-coloured lights flashed upon the stage and the sounds of Angel's live band (who were clad in monochrome tee’s) bounced off the walls in of the basement. A little while later, Angel highlighted his rather chaotic schedule confessing to his fans that he was at Westfield’s Shopping Centre just 20 minutes before he hit the stage! He sported a black snapback with the word ‘Dope’ plastered over it in red letters a slogan which summed up the overall set.

The finale was a fiery performance of Angel's euphoric hit single ‘Wonderful’.

This was a night to toast the underdog. We just might finally have found a worthy torch bearer for UK R&B/Soul. It most definitely is 'About Time'!

'About Time' is out now. Make sure you grab a copy!
