SCREENING: The Box

You Have Two Options And 24 Hours To Choose

Not all buttons are meant to be pushed! Especially this one!

Starring Cameron Diaz, James Marsden

Release Date: 4th December

In 1976, a mysterious box arrives at the doorstep of a suburban Virginia couples (Cameron Diaz and James Marsden) home. They have just 24 hours to choose whether to press a button in the box, which by the way has been delivered by a mysterious visitor.

Bring on the freaky music.

What’s inside the package I hear you yell? Well, Inside this package is a box and atop that box is a giant red button.

Let the game commence! There are two rules;

1) Push the button and get $1 million dollars –cash!

2) Push THIS button and someone, somewhere dies! Not so simple.

The film unveils a few twists, and when the twists come… they twist some more. It’s great to see Diaz back on our screens, however in this particular role I think it’s best she didn’t speak as her accent doesn’t do her any favors.

The Box is based on Richard Matheson’s short story “Button, Button,” which is beautiful in its simplicity and haunting irony.

Kelly’s version constantly trips over its unnecessary convulsions and becomes far too whacky to be taken seriously. However Donnie Darko was a fantastic film so, with that in mind, director Richard Kelly does deserve some credit.

Who knew a film about a big red button could actually be made? He has created one mother sci-fi/horror of a film! This dark and twisted movie is worth a view to say the least.

Try and get past the cringe worthy accents. I did warn you...

It goes without saying Enigmatic indie director Kelly has some imagination! He is nothing, if not ambitious!

Will they push the button?
